How To Spot a Fake BMW Wheel
Posted by Prussian Motors on Aug 4th 2025
Look for OEM Part Numbers and Stamps
- All BMW wheels have an OEM part number stamped on them
- These are usually on the back of the spokes, around the flange on the inside of the wheel, or around the lug nut holes on the front of the wheel.
- Look for a manufacture name. OEM manufacturers include BBS, Ronal, Borbet, and more.
- Wheel specs will also be stamped on the wheel, usually near the part number.
Compare Specs and Sizes
- Fake wheels often have more universal fitment
- Research the OEM specs using trusted websites such as RealOEM.com
- Compare the factory size to the stamped size on the wheel
- If the sizes do not match, the wheel may be a replica
Watch for special wording in listings when shopping online
- Wording such as "BMW Style Wheel" or "M3 Look Wheel" indicate that the wheel is not genuine
- "Rep" or "Aftermarket" are also indicators for fake wheels.
Why it matters
- Replica manufactures are not held to the same standard as BMW
- The wheels could easily bend or crack, which would cause a safety concern
- When it comes to safety and performance, Genuine BMW wheels are worth the investment
